Philosophy
My mind-set is that children learn and retain information when the material is applicable to real-world examples. It is my desire to show children not just how to get the solutions to everyday problems, but why we perform the particular steps to help extend their learning. I believe allowing the children to have an opportunity to inspect and solve a problem cooperatively before instruction will allow for a greater understanding of problem solving techniques.
As a teacher it is my upmost responsibility to bring a positive and stimulating outlook to mathematics. My responsibility is to provide an environment for learning, to help children model problems, and to provide my students with the materials and means to help them succeed.
Upon the end of the year, it is my desire that all my students will have a fresh and exciting attitude toward mathematics. In addition, I hope that the children’s team building skills have improved and that they have the tools necessary to solve problems and evaluate situations using mathematics.
My personal belief is that assessment is a tool used to
determine if students are achieving their desired goals. The accomplishment of these goals set forth
by the students and I will be assessed through observation and verbal
interviews that will show whether or not the student is progressing. This information will be used throughout the
year to determine curriculum instruction.
The goals and assessment will be ongoing and will require interaction
between the student, parents, and teacher.
My classroom will implement technology as much as possible and we will strive to satisfy the limits of our technology budget in the process. We will use technology in a way that assists the student's learning and helps them gain content mastery of the subject. I hope to incorporate cell phones, an itouch, smart board, and web sites into our curriculum as long as it benefits the overall instruction of the material. I am always open to new ideas and different ways we can use technology in the classroom so if you have any thoughts on this, please feel free to share them with me.
